Primary season is approaching and with it the same frustrations that come with elections in most of America. Are you tired of voting in a system where voting for the candidate you really like feels like "throwing your vote away"? Are you tired of the limited choices that two parties give you? Come learn how Ranked Choice Voting (aka instant runoff voting) can help change these outcomes and how you can work to bring it to Los Angeles or your local government. It has already been put into effect in many cities across the country and there's even a statewide effort in Maine.
Civic Sundays will be joined by Jennifer Pae of Fair Vote California and Sean McMorris of Represent.US San Gabriel Valley. They'll explain how Ranked Choice Voting works, how it promotes fairness, fosters civil elections, reduces costs, supports greater voter participation, and minimizes strategic voting, vote splitting, and the spoiler effect. This is a non-partisan issue that could improve our entire system of government, enabling more candidates outside of the two-party system to gain support and have a fair opportunity to run.
As always, after our introduction we'll have a presentation from the speakers followed by time for you to ask questions. And Iron Triangle Brewing Company is family-friendly with the best beers in the Arts District. All are welcome, but show up on time to guarantee a seat. See you there!
