Election Reform Dinner in Santa Clara

Our special guest Krist Novoselic (formerly of the groundbreaking rock band Nirvana) and FairVote Executive Director Rob Richie will be at Mayuri Indian Restaurant in Santa Clara this Friday evening March 9, 2018. They'll speak to how the measure on the Santa Clara ballot this June would empower voters to have a better ballot and greater representation on the city council and other city offices.

The $15 dinner buffet at Mayuri includes tax and tip, and attendees will be able to pay at the door (drinks are extra). Please also bring your friends, neighbors and your checkbook as we'll be asking for contributions toward the ballot measure campaign to help pass it in June.

Today, Santa Clara holds a single election to elect its mayor and city council in a citywide election. When more than two candidates run for mayor, the winner doesn’t need a majority and doesn’t need to appeal to most voters to win. For the council, one group of voters can elect everyone.

This June 5, 2018, Santa Clara voters will be able to support a ballot measure to ensure the city’s diversity is better reflected with ranked choice voting. Whether you are in the majority or the minority in the city, RCV will ensure that the city council, mayor, and other city officers will be fairly elected.
